HNC were delighted to receive funding for a laptop which enables the centre to deliver basic skills IT classes. Volunteers from the community such as Edan Rowland aged 15 works on a one to one basis supporting members of the community who are not conversant with information technology. This basic support enables the beneficiaries to access services online, keep in touch with their family and friends and make life easier for them in current society.

Many of our beneficiaries are elderly and the majority have said that being able to use a computer really enhances their life.

Being able to use young volunteers such as Edan breaks down some of the barriers across generations.

Hart Neighbourhood Centre has been able to help 43 people with their basic IT skills this year with more people joining our waiting list each week.

Many thanks to all those who came and helped at “Get With” this year!

Get With 2009 was once again a very successful collaborative Community Safety project co-ordinated by Hart Neighbourhood Centre and funded by Sentinel Housing Association.

38 different organisations from the public, corporate and third sector contributed resources, skills and time to create 20 days of varied, exciting and educational events.

Businesses and public services such as IBM, Microsoft and Hampshire Fire and Rescue service added value with innovative activities and employee engagement

149 young people ages 11- 16, from the local area, took part this year

“Get With” inspired a great amount of new opportunities for the young people to try their hands at such as outdoor pursuits, dancing, music and music production. Skills in diverse sports, cookery and information technology are among a few examples of the activities that many of the young people could get involved in. Many of these activities they had not done nor thought of before.

HART HEALTHY WALKS

With sponsorship from Sports Relief, The Hart Neighbourhood Centre runs free weekly Health Walks in Hook, Odiham, Hartley Wintney and Church Crookham. All abilities welcome, great social and fitness opportunity, come and join us!

Love your heart whilst enjoying your Hart!

Hook – Mondays 11am from Hart Neighbourhood Centre, London Road

Church Crookham – Tuesdays 11am from Wickham Court, Sheltered accommodation.

Odiham – Thursdays 1.45pm from The Bridewell

Hartley Wintney – Fridays, 11am from Rosefield Court, Sheltered accommodation.

Supported by Sentinel Housing Association

Hart Neighbourhood Centre in Hook runs an accredited Healthy Walks Scheme which is part of the ‘Walking the way to Health Initiative’. This is a joint venture between Natural England and the British Heart Foundation.

Health walks are aimed at people who would like to walk at a gentle pace in a safe and social setting. We encourage people who may be rehabilitating after an illness, who would like to begin to take gentle exercise or who feel they would like to meet people.

We provide short walks for those who are less able and everyone can walk at their own pace.

The walks are approximately 40 minutes long, are led by trained walk leaders, and require no specialist walking clothes. At the end of the walk there are refreshments and a chance for a chat.

One of our regular walkers says, “I try to go to both the Hook and Odiham walks as I thoroughly enjoy them. Although I suffer from a bad knee, I am still able to do the full walks, although a shorter walk is always possible instead. It is an enjoyable couple of hours, and a chance to meet people”
