Step up to IT

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

HNC were delighted to receive funding for a laptop which enables the centre to deliver basic skills IT classes. Volunteers from the community such as Edan Rowland aged 15 works on a one to one basis supporting members of the community who are not conversant with information technology. This basic support enables the beneficiaries to access services online, keep in touch with their family and friends and make life easier for them in current society.

Many of our beneficiaries are elderly and the majority have said that being able to use a computer really enhances their life.

Being able to use young volunteers such as Edan breaks down some of the barriers across generations.

Hart Neighbourhood Centre has been able to help 43 people with their basic IT skills this year with more people joining our waiting list each week.

GET WITH 2009

Many thanks to all those who came and helped at “Get With” this year!

Get With 2009 was once again a very successful collaborative Community Safety project co-ordinated by Hart Neighbourhood Centre and funded by Sentinel Housing Association.

38 different organisations from the public, corporate and third sector contributed resources, skills and time to create 20 days of varied, exciting and educational events.

Businesses and public services such as IBM, Microsoft and Hampshire Fire and Rescue service added value with innovative activities and employee engagement

149 young people ages 11- 16, from the local area, took part this year

“Get With” inspired a great amount of new opportunities for the young people to try their hands at such as outdoor pursuits, dancing, music and music production. Skills in diverse sports, cookery and information technology are among a few examples of the activities that many of the young people could get involved in. Many of these activities they had not done nor thought of before.
